Chris Roy JD specializes in defeating (the) Standard Insurance with their dirty tricks; I have no doubt that I would have been just another victim without his expertise. What very much impressed me during my initial interview was his quiet, self-assured confidence - NO arrogance or over-confidence - but a demeanor resulting from experience and sound judgment. Everything that he predicted about my case came to pass as described, meaning that I won my case. It is unfortunate that we, as disabled insured workers, must go to these lengths, but I am fortunate to have Chris Roy on my side.
Attorney Chris Roy helped me deal with an insurance company that wasn’t looking out for me or my family after I faced a frightening disability. Without a doubt, without his support, many dollars would have been taken from me. I recommend Attorney Chris Roy to anyone who needs advice on handling disability settlements.
Roy Law and his staff took on my case in knowing the state policies and regulations were stacked against people applying for disability retirement . Chris was very professional and he or his staff returned my calls and emails with in hours. They really understand the hardship the disability process process and were there to listen and give me hope. I really hope more people find out about Roy Law and give them a call sooner rather than later . I have vast experience with disabilities and helping people with disabilities and I thought I could do this on my own but when the system is legally set up to deny everyone even with 3 supporting Medical professionals it was wonderful to have a experienced attorney defending my case . I will recommend any one going through this process. Intact Roy Law.
Chris Roy and Danielle Barber are AMAZING. After getting the run around on my disability claim I contacted Roy Law office and they stepped right in and got me approved in a couple weeks. They kept me informed on everything they did and handled my claim in a professional and caring manner. I would recommend them to anyone. They took the stress off of me so I could focus on getting better. I definitely give them a 5 star +.
Roy Law turned a bitter roadblock into a fair and open outcome.
They worked with me in a kind, professional manner from the very first phone call, and they also did all the heavy lifting.
I really enjoyed working with the entire team, and highly recomend Roy Law.
Roy Law represents individuals throughout Hawaii who have been denied long-term disability insurance benefits. A federal law titled the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”) governs almost all disputes over group disability insurance policies obtained through employee benefit plans, while state contract and tort laws govern disputes over individually purchased private disability insurance policies.
ERISA allows those wrongfully denied long-term disability insurance benefits to appeal denials directly to federal court, the United States District Court, District of Hawaii, located at 300 Ala Moana Blvd, Rm C338, in Honolulu. A successful ERISA claim allows for recovery of contractual damages, interest, and in some cases attorney fees and costs.
Hawaii residents holding private disability insurance policies will have their claims heard in Hawai‘i State Circuit Court. There are four circuit court systems in Hawaii: O‘ahu, Maui, Moloka‘i and Lana‘i, Hawai‘i, and Kaua‘i. State law allows Hawaii residents to sue for breach of contract to obtain direct damages as well as damages incidental and consequential to the breach of contract. Further, residents may also sue for the tort of bad faith, which allows for recovery of extra-contractual damages, like compensation for pain, suffering, and emotional distress. Moreover, under a successful claim for breach of contract or bad faith, insureds may be able to recover their reasonable attorney fees and costs for having to bring legal action to obtain benefits.
