Roy Law is the only Northwest law firm solely dedicated to fighting companies like The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., usually known as The Hartford, against wrongful long-term disability insurance claim denials. The Hartford is headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut, and it sells long-term disability insurance policies through Washington State, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Montana. Roy Law’s disability lawyers handle long-term disability insurance appeals and litigation under Hartford’s group and private disability insurance policies.
Group policies are offered by employers through employee benefit plans, and almost all disputes over those plans are governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, or “ERISA”. Under ERISA, claimants denied long-term disability insurance benefits must first appeal their denial directly to The Hartford. If their appeal is denied, they may seek judicial review in federal court to recover their back and future benefits, interest, and reasonable attorney fees and costs. Unfortunately, ERISA does not allow recovery of extra-contractual damages, like pain, suffering and emotional distress.
Disputes over private, individual disability insurance policies are governed by state contract, tort, and consumer protection laws. Some states, like Oregon State, only allow wrongfully denied insureds to bring claims for breach of contract. However, other states, like Washington State, allow policy holders to bring claims for breach of contract, bad faith, and for violations of Washington’s Insurance Fair Conduct Act, or “IFCA”. Regardless of these differences, both Oregon, Washington and most other states allow successful litigants to recover their reasonable attorney fees and costs for having to bring legal action to enforce their disability insurance contract with The Hartford.
The Hartford, is a United States-based investment and insurance company. The company’s earnings are divided between ground benefits, mutual funds, and property-and-casualty operations. The Hartford is the 12th-largest property and casualty company in the United States, and it sells its products primarily through a network of agents and brokers, and has been the direct auto and home insurance writer for members of AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) for more than 25 years. The company’s product offerings include: auto and homeowners’ insurance; business insurance, including workers’ compensation, auto, property, general and professional liability; employee benefits, including disability, life & accident and retiree health, and; mutual funds (sub-advised by Wellington Management).

Facing permanent disability and unable to work I thought my insurance would cover me, boy was I wrong! I had paid the premium for many years through my employer just in case something ever happened. With no where to turn, being denied by insurance and depleting all savings just to survive I felt helpless!
Searching the internet I found Roy Law. Taking a chance I called. What a godsend ! This Law Firm, and in particular Chris Roy, saved the day. I found everyone to be professional, caring, diligent and timely. They are not only good at what they do but they take the time to make sure you understand what you're faced with and the paths to help you make the best decision. Chris and his team were successful in turning my situation around. Chris truly cares about what they do and why they do it, and for the right reasons. His firm knows the industry and how most insurance companies only care about the bottom dollar and not necessarily about your health or situation.
I'm glad I found Roy Law and highly recommend them and their ability to Help! Don't hesitate to call or give them a try. I know I'm glad I did!

I was being treated like a thief by an insurance company. I could fill a page with the explanation of the run around that I was receiving ...making me want to drop the case and just forget about hundreds of thousands of dollars that they owed me..insurance commissioner? Forget them. They were completely useless in my case. After many calls to different attorneys offices I found Chris Roy..
I don't know who wrote the bad reviews of this law office...but in my case Chris Roy was tenacious and communicated every detail with me ..believe me ...he made the insurance company pay attention.
Be smart , document your case carefully, and then turn it over to Chris Roy.
Don't get pushed around by an insurance company..be smart, get Chris Roy to help you.

I was like the many other people that wrote a review for Chris Roy. I have paid into my long term disability insurance on and off for over 18 years. I have always tried to keep working despite having 4 brain surgeries and 2 neck fusions in 6 years!! I really believed it would matter, that my hard work and determination would make a difference. I believed that if the day came that I could no longer work, I could be proud and unashamed knowing I had done everything I could to keep working. Instead the opposite was true!! Prudential has taken everything from me and I've been fighting them for 10 long horrible months!!
Thank God for Chris Roy, Danielle Barber and the rest of his staff!!! My only regret is that I didn't hire them from the beginning!! We are still fighting for my benefits but I sleep so much better knowing they are in my corner! They work hard and care about their clients. They are extremely knowledgeable and give me confidence that we are eventually going to be ok!
I saw in one gentleman's review about the Department of Buissness and Consumer Services, that they would not help. This has been true for me as well. It is very disappointing that these organizations do nothing to help the people being victimized by billionaire companies during the worst times of our lives!! I wish we could form some sort of petition with enough signatures that they could not ignore us anymore!!!
